Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 3, 2026
Hermitage Studios LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Ember Audio mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our App.
Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Name and Username — provided during account creation to identify you within the App and to family members you share recordings with.
- Email Address — used for account authentication and to contact you about your account if needed.
- User ID — a unique identifier assigned to your account by our authentication system.
- Audio Recordings — voice recordings you create within the App. These are stored locally on your device and, if you choose to share them, uploaded to our cloud storage.
- Purchase Information — records of subscription purchases are processed by Apple and associated with your account to enable premium features.
- Usage Data — we collect anonymous analytics data such as app launches and feature usage to improve the App. This data is processed through Firebase Analytics.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App
- Authenticate your account and enable sign-in
- Enable family sharing features so your recordings can be accessed by family members you choose
- Process subscription purchases and manage premium features
- Understand how the App is used so we can improve the experience
- Respond to support requests
Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored using Google Firebase services (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, and Cloud Storage), which are hosted in the United States. Audio recordings are stored locally on your device and, when shared, in Firebase Cloud Storage. We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest to protect your data.
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
- Firebase Authentication — for account sign-in (email/password, Google Sign-In, Sign in with Apple)
- Firebase Cloud Firestore — for storing user profiles, library data, and shared book metadata
- Firebase Cloud Storage — for storing shared audio recordings and cover images
- Firebase Analytics — for anonymous usage analytics
- Apple StoreKit — for processing in-app subscriptions
These services have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review Google's Privacy Policy and Apple's Privacy Policy.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Your audio recordings are only shared with family members you explicitly choose to share with through the App's family sharing features.
Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the App, which will remove your user profile, shared recordings, and associated data from our servers. Local recordings stored on your device are managed by you through the App or by deleting the App.
Children's Privacy
Ember Audio is designed for families but is intended to be used by adults (parents, grandparents, and caregivers) to record stories for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. The App does not require or encourage children to provide any personal information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
